STM Côte-Vertu Garage

Quality control - Railway installation, structural works and civil works

As part of the STM’s new Côte-Vertu garage project, Can-Explore was mandated for just over two years to carry out quality control of the rail position with Railcantech, as well as the completion of structural and civil work with Groupe Cegerco. This underground infrastructure, consisting of a concrete and steel structure, will serve as a maintenance garage and parking for trains on the Orange Line of the Montréal Metro.

Can-Explore has been mandated by Railcantech to position the rails connecting the existing tunnel of the orange line of the metro to the network of the new garage totaling nearly 3 km of railway on blocks. In order to respect the various parameters of use of the STM and to increase the durability of the rail network, the rails were installed at an accuracy of 1 mm. The new railway network, divided into three maintenance tunnels, included 7 switches, more than 500 insulators for the guide bar, more than 500 blocks and 224 stilts.

Can-Explore’s mandate at the Côte-Vertu garage in partnership with Groupe Cegerco included the completion of the concrete, structural and backfill work of the STM’s future garage. In summary, a reinforced concrete shaft for ventilation, elevator and some services were erected from the service tunnels to the street level where its control building is located. The completion of the structural concrete walls of the beam (main track interchange including 5 switch devices) and its steel roof was implemented by the Can-Explore team. A total of approximately 6,000 cubic metres of reinforced concrete and 3,000 metric tonnes of steel were put in place during this mandate. Finally, an approximate total of 40,000 cubic meters of heavy and light granular fill was placed and compacted around and above the beam to the finished level of the surrounding streets.
